Facebook’s New Face

Your facebook profile page is now being called your “timeline”.   This recent update seems to be moving in the direction of prior updates, which is towards more sharing and less privacy.

Users continue to express their concern about what facebook is trying to accomplish, with every new update released.  But do users even have a voice?  After all, the service is still free to use and users still control what they post and who gets to see it.  If they don’t like the new features, users can still quit using facebook, can’t they?

It will be interesting to see what happens with this new release.  But my guess is that it is out of the users hands and has been for some time now.  What do you think is behind this new profile design?  Is there any benefit to the users?  Or is this the next step towards facebook becoming a public portal which transcends deep into our private lives?

Buying Magazines On Your iPhone?

Magazines On An iPhone?

Magazines On An iPhone?

Ran across this article about the market for finite use apps i.e. “content for fee” on the iPhone and started thinking about what reading one of my faves would be like on such a small screen.

Time will tell whether there will be a market for buying content such as a traditional monthly magazine (finite content) as an app on your iPhone.  It is telling that people are willing to exchange the experience of flipping through the pages of a 9″x12″ glossy printed publication for a version that my old eyes could not even read.

On the other hand, I can see the day in the near future when I will be carrying around a 12″ tablet that is (almost) as thin and light as a magazine and runs for a whole day of traveling on a single charge.

Welcome To The WMT Beta Release…

It’s simple!  If you know what’s important…  We start our official Beta release of WMT with a little bit of anatomy.  No, not human, but WMT anatomy.  Another term we should get used to is architecture.  Just like a physical building, this WMT site has an architecture, and the cool thing is that all of the building materials are free.  Come to think of it, most of the tools we use to build a site like WMT are free also.  So what’s the big cost?
