Just wanted to comment on the adoption of Open Office. If you haven’t tried it yet, you may want to. While we still use MSFT Office in our small consulting firm, we have been using Open Office also for the past year or so. It definitely has some peculiarities, but overall is a great office suite alternative for the budget conscious business.
Open source software is becoming more popular across many application categories, with Firefox (browser), Open Office (docs, spreadsheet, p-point), and WordPress (blogging/cms) just to name a few of the biggies. A huge number of small and big busineses use WordPress and have standardized on it for a main CMS/blogging platform. Open Office itself is being adopted by school systems it seems. I spoke with a school teacher recently who mentioned that her middle school tech teacher friend only teaches office apps using Open Office.
This article talks about a mouse which was designed to make using Open Office a little easier or more efficient (somehow
). You can download and try Open Office just fine without the custom mouse though
.
